Problems..
« on: April 17, 2014, 12:24:43 pm »
Okay, so I have an 09 abarth punto with 44k on the clock..

one of the rear callipers starting binding on.. and so I put it to Arnold clark to have this fixed, due to the pads being low its damaged the disc, and so both rear discs and pads need changed..

they also tell me the calliper needs replaced, at a cost of £360.. can these callipers be repaired or is a replacement needed?

the other thing they told me is that my water level in the car is below minimum, now I've had the car 8 months and haven't topped the water up, is this normal? they tell me my radiator has a leak which is the cause of this.. have any of you had any radiator problems with your cars?

any help would be appreciated..
thanks
matthew

the calipers are expensive but that does seems a bit much, they can be repaired and Abarth list reconditioned calipers. You will need someone  good in the parts department who knows what they are looking for.

Vauxhall Corsa (the disowned cousin of the Punto) calipers are much cheaper but you would have to paint them yourself

My car has lost a bit of coolant on a couple of occasions but it just needed hoseclips tightening up. Have a good look around as you will see pink residue around any leaks. Not heard of radiators being an issue although its always possible :thumb:

My local dealer quoted me £495 fitted for one caliper, it's because they are brembo, that's my reasoning anyway.

If you are going to paint them yourself it's an easy enough job just make sure you pick the right paint that doesn't require priming, makes life easier  ;D

Front are made by Brembo, rears are from the generic OEM parts bin... Extortionate prices are due to "Abarth tax" :thumb:

    BUY YOUR OWN PARTS

I got stung by stupidly believing the guy at Lipscomb when he said he was doing me a good deal on the parts cost. It would seem that the parts from Abarth are DOUBLE what you can buy them for elsewhere.
Abarth Grande Punto, White, Stripes, Climate, Standard Wheels.
