Title: Problems with Emissions / Lambda
Post by: Jukkat on January 21, 2016, 08:47:11 pm
Hey all! I´m a bit rude, first post and already i´m asking for help, fellows!

I bought and german Grande Punto Abarth and drove it to home (finland).

Now i´m trying to get it mot ´d, and i´ve come across with emission issues and a troubling lamda.

On the first attempt, all emission values were high, co 2,6% c02 13,00 Hc200, lambda 0,95.

I was hopeful that a new bosch lambda would solve this, still high emissions and codes 0130 and 1135 (lambda codes). I don´t know what to do anymore :/

Cheers, Jukka

Id check condition of air filter, maybe also spark plugs and put some cat convertor cleaner in with fuel to see if that will lower the emissions, unsure of what brands available in Finland but where I am the trade prefer Forte Gas treatment and another product called Cataclean.
No harm in trying this and inexpensive too.

Thanks, I'll try these soon. Am I right that grande only has 1 lamda (pre-cat), whereas 500 has two (before and after)?

Can you tell me which model and age of punto please? I looked at punto evo system, its cat has 2 sensors, 1 in the manifold at cyl head, the other underneath at opposite end of cat assembly before pipe joins centre exhaust section.

Your car should have 2 lambda sensors, Front is regulator, rear is diagnostic, bosch rear part no is 0258006375. Its possible it needs new cat though.

So cooked cat can cause lamda fault codes?

Reluctant to state if they cause lambda fail, the lambda sensors are only reporting what it senses so to speak..
Therefore it could be indicating a converter fault , but a faulty sensor is possible too.
What are the fault codes actually saying?  have you tried going for a drive with additive i suggested yet?

Haven't driven with additive yet, gonna check local shelf today as ill buy the new air filter.
Maybe worth a look at the plugs, according to manual, they should be changed 20,000km ago.
If i remember correctly, lamda codes are p0130 and p1135, pre-heat and something like that.
Thanks a lot for Your help, big ups!
And the lambda in manifold is replaced with new bosch.

No cataclean was available on monday, just some stp stuff, so i passed the additives.
I changed the air filter on monday and went to a re-test on tuesday, and suddenly all the emissions were good!? This morning the eml came back though.. But at least i got hard tin plates now, so i will have more time to have a look at it. Luckily all the trouble stayed away yesterday!

Oh well, at least a partial result there then, if you cant get cataclean then maybe ask your garage what product they use. Keep us informed, happy to have helped   :thumb:

Time to wake this one up.. the engine light has stayed on since last inspection, hasnt been bothering too much but i´ve decided to fix it before winter.. so I borrowed a lambda thats 100% working, and the same codes are still up. Spark plugs were changed yesterday, still the same. I don´t know anymore what to do.. :| Just would be nice to drive without faults.. Even the local certified fiat service could not find the excact reason for lambda error code.. they charged me 88€ for all the information I already knew :D

Hello! If this helps anyone else, the mystery was finally solved. Previous owner (or some dodgy repair shop), had confused the lambda connectors (they were mixed up), and lambda 2 was faulty (which we could not figure as it showed up as number 1). Also there was a bad connection in the lambda loom which was fixed.
