running in period
« on: December 13, 2008, 10:08:45 pm »
is there a specified running in period for the engine / maximum amount of revs to give it for the first XXXX amount of miles? (i know about not ragging it to the red line if your wanting the SS kit)

iv done a search for it on here because im sure John mentioned something about there not being one.

    not that im aware of.

you havent really got to worry too much about the rev limiter/ss thing, unless you rag the plums off it i wouldntve thought youre gonna exceed the 60,000msecs/1 minute limit.

From experience it depends on how you want the car to behave later in life.
I found two indentical fiat engines that were completly different. Both with 3000 miles on, one driven by me about 10 miles a day and not really treated that hard and one driven by Mr Vosper who did alot of motorway miles and drives quite hard.
When I drove both cars I found that one driven by Mr Vosper was a lot quicker and more responsive.
My suggestion is dont treat with kid gloves in its early life or it may run in to be a slower car.

hahaha cheap fuel!!!!! we get screwed over soooooooo much with the price we pay! even at 89.9 thats still a stupid amount compair to say america... anyways thats another story completely.

as for treating it with kid gloves, i certainly wont be doing that ;) if im honest with you i didnt buy the abarth to drive it like my gran ;)

good to hear there isnt really a bedding in period! i dont do that many miles and it may take quite a few weeks to rack up say 1.5k miles! had my mjet for a year and half and only put 9.8k miles on it!!! (came with 700 on it)

I suppose it might help just treating them kindly for the first couple of miles ....might help bed the brakes etc in nicely, then treat it like you stole it  ;D
