Where would you put the Sport Boost button?
« on: November 04, 2008, 10:37:38 pm »
I use the Sport Boost button quite a lot.

I often drive with Sport Boost off, both to save fuel and my licence, but will hit the Sport button when I know I'm going to need the full beans, i.e. setting-up an over-take, getting on to a dual carriageway, pulling out at a busy roundabout, favourite set of twisties approaching, there's an 'R' in the month, etc.  ;D

Because of that, I'd quite like to have the sport button on the steering wheel, where it's easy to stab at with an excited finger.

Where would you put it?

Couldn't agree more - I also found that it is necessary to turn the ASR off if you really want your car to perform as it should. The ASR has quite an impact on the performance - so I'd put both buttons on the steering wheel :P

I'd put it in the bin.  Keep the throttle response, boost etc permamently on the sport settings and ditch the gimmicky button.

Strangely I found that I can get better mpg in sport than not, and the throttle response feels horrible out of the sport option.

I'll go with Old Boy on that one.

I've been driving with sport mode on for three weeks or so and on the two occasions when I've considered going back to normal mode, a few minutes convinces me that it's a bad move.

I hate the throttle response in normal mode and can live with the different steering feel.

Plus the button looks so cheap.

Put it in the boot, so you're never tempted to turn it off.

I really wouldn't want it removed, and I'll tell you why: road tax.

I bet the emissions are filthy as hell with Sport Boost enabled, enough to push the car into one of the horrible VED bands at £3/400 a year.

I think the emissions are done under the worst possible running conditions, I know with Sedici that if you run it in 2 wheel drive it would be in the lower tax bracket, but the emmisions are taken with the 4 wheel drive enabled.

thats also an advantage of havin the ss kit fitted after, it wont put your tax up. Bet if it came out of the factory in ss spec it would be in the same band as other hot hatch's at £210.
