Abarth 500 / Re: Advice on mods
« Last post by Matt_dab on Today at 11:02:57 am »
Hi,

As nobody else has replied i will chime in with some of my experience.
Getting a sports cat will instantly make the car noticeably louder, but will help performance a good deal.

Forge induction kit i have seen and heard, although its not for me, far too "modified" sounding for me and i would be irritated by the cabin noise but each their own!

Bombardone i have had one on in the past (albeit with a decat and a large centre resonator) and was still too loud.
It all depends if you are after performance or aesthetics with the exhaust.

When i purchased my car 2009 135bhp, it had a decat and a bluespark tuning box, it dyno'd between 159bhp and 163bhp for reference.

If i had bought a standard car, sports cat would have been first on the list, then judged the sound level to then choose the nicest looking exhaust respectively. Im not sold on any of the induction kits as they all have negatives for me.

I actually looked at getting a set of these just over a year ago, but couldn't find the right colour and spec for the money.

I ended up purchasing some Fondmetal 9Esse wheels instead but they have a few options in the correct Centre bore/PCD etc

Just incase you were interested in looking into other options

Abarth 500 / Tender charger
« Last post by 695C on January 18, 2022, 03:24:47 pm »
Hi, has any of you fitted a MagCode charging cable/port to your Abarth? Where have placed the MagCode as discrete as possible?

And have any of you figured out how to fit a relay or something else so the car will not start if a charger is connected?

I had put the charger on last night as it had not been driven for some days and for some reason my wife took this instead of some of the other cars and drove halfway down the street with charger in the engine bay and extension cord hanging after the car ...

It's older italien brother will not start if the charger is on, which is smart enough.

Here is a retrofit of the MagCode on an R8 - https://www.r8talk.com/threads/great-charger-connection.163600/

New mapping only in Sport could be done by my Tuner, but since I'm always in Sportmode (don't like the steering and gasresponse in normal mode) I didn't opt for that (was €50 extra).

Not sure if MPG is the right indicator.
Mine is chipped from 135Hp 206Nm to 170Hp 300 Nm. Since tuning it uses even less than before and less than my 100Hp Panda.
On a long run (motorways) it does 1(litre) in 17.5 (Km) easily. Short runs (especially in the cold) gives 12,5 out of a litre.

Thanks for the reply...will have to wait for the summer, or try a double map, more economy on normal and more power on sport....if that is possible ???

First thing is to reset both Trip 1 and 2. That should give you a clear base to start from. Does your mpg improve in summer? If you are doing short journeys in town where the oil and water temperature does not get up to normal, I can see 30 being quite possible, especially if it is all stop start.
Is the car service up to date, plugs, air filter correct oil, tyre pressures? You are not carrying a boat anchor in the boot ;D

Our Abarth does about 36mpg in similar driving conditions and my mrs certainly does not have a heavy foot.

I did that, got up to 32mpg at one point, gradually dropped back to 30.2 - thanks for the reply.

I also had a 2010 100HP and I am sure that was getting 40+MPG and I pushed that quite hard, no anchor, tyre pressures every weekend, Full SH, the only thing is it is a paper airfilter not the correct sport one (which I have only just discovered, in the advert it said it had the sports filter, had to order a 7mm socket to find out) Thanks for the reply

Hi, this sounds about right to me, we have an 2020 esseesse and the other half only does very short trips always in sport mode, very rare to see over 30 mpg, we get what i would call normal ( late 30's ) on a longer trip.

My favourite as an all round tyre is Michelin Pilot Sport, our  Abarths have been good on them.
I find the standard brakes adequate for normal road use, just buy a reputable brand.
Steering wheel can be retrimmed, have a Google for someone local to you.
Remap, i will leave others to chip in or do a search on this forum, plenty of posts to read through.
