Abarth 500 / Re: Newbie question - identifying the Abarth series

S2 is something I've never seen concrete info on.  S1, 3 and 4 are well known but 2 not so much.

Compared to early S1 cars (my one was a '09 built mid year) I know there are at least two other components that changed some point after.  The first I was made aware of was when fixing the Blue&Me equipment.  From memory the unit was changed due an issue I was told it was now a different manufacturer with 64MB RAM instead of 32MB which in my experience made it much more reliable.  The second was interior trim.  My one had the red leather (now referred to as "Turismo" style) seats in the front with black rear seats with red stitching.  At some point this was changed to red rear seats.  It could be these relate to a potential series 2 update but I have no documents/proof and does contradict something I was told.

The rear seat was a deal breaker for me when looking for a replacement, I wanted the same interior specs as I had in the '09 as I felt red throughout was a bit too much.  This brings me to the Fuori Serie/Fuoriserie, which was shown originally in Paris 2012 and then again in Geneva 2013.  These would have been based on the Tributo Ferrari's 180bhp setup, feature original non-TFT gauges but with custom options, potentially resolving my seat issue.  After waiting to hear updates about the car, all went quiet.  I enquired in the dealerships in person, where they knew nothing about it despite it being on a poster behind their desk.  I called other dealerships before eventually speaking to someone at the head office who confirmed the car wasn't going ahead, that it was part of the cancelled series 2.

I have tried so many times to find a picture of the poster/artwork from the dealerships to post when I refer to this as I'm sure many have passed it without knowing the Fuoriserie.  I've searched online for the poster, for dealership interior photos to see if it's in the background etc but haven't been able to come up with anything.  It was definately in the showrooms before I enquired about the 180bhp Comp at the start of 2015 and I think for sometime after.

The best way I can describe it is its laid out like, this but with more columns/rows:
https://www.ricambio.co.uk/image/cache/cache/2001-3000/2792/main/94c3-dsc-0606-0-1-500x500.jpg
but with only modern 500/595/695 variants using press images, with no labels, like:
https://letocar.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Abarth-695-Fuori-Serie.jpg
It's not in full colour though, its more of a greyscale.

If anyone works in a dealership/visits and finds it, perhaps they could take a pic of it for me  ;D

Uconnect / Abarth S4 - upgrade to Apple Car Play
« Last post by Djbambina on October 15, 2021, 11:23:53 am »
Hey All
Thanks for the invite to the team. Great to see that almost everyone waves when i drive by. Proper community spirit.
OK, quick question - my 2016 595 Comp wasn't specc'd with Carplay, but has a 7 inch touch screen. ... has anyone  done the upgrade to carplay from a non-car play unit?
I've spoken to my abarth dealer and they say that "it may" need a different wiring loom.

has anyone on here made this change, and any help would be great ?
cheers

David

Out of interest (and a trifle off topic) but FCA's desires to stay ahead of emissions laws is what finally finished off the fantastic Alfa 'Busso' v6. They added extra in-manifold cats and a new ecu to the 3.2 in the cf3 update to make it Euro 3 compliant, but that made it far less reliable - the extra cats did a lovely job of increasing back pressure and heat soak which may have resulted in blown head gaskets (something the v6 rarely suffered from before), and definitely resulted in barbecued ECUs since they were mounted directly above the rear manifold.

And since there was no chance of getting the Busso Euro 4 ready they swapped to a far less pleasant GM-sourced V6 for the 159 and spectacular-looking Brera, which didn't do sales a lot of good.

Site Issues and Feedback / Is there any way to edit posts or give 'likes'?

Apologies if this is the wrong forum, but I've been looking in vain for some way to give feedback for posts people have made (e.g. a 'like') and couldn't find any. If there isn't an easy way to do this, it'd be a nice little forum tweak to say 'thanks' to people who have given a helpful reply to a question.

And another one which I'm sure I'm just missing - is there any way to edit your own posts? I ended up giving 3 posts in quick succession in reply to someone's question when one edited post would have done the job.

Thanks in advance

I think the S2 was the change to Euro 5 with corresponding reduction in VED

Ah, interesting, when did that 's2' Euro 5 change happen? Most likely that'll involve some ecu / loom changes too, unless it was just a matter of a mild remap; FCA generally try to stay ahead of the game emissions-wise, so could be the 500 was pretty much Euro 5 ready but just needed a few mapping tweaks.

Series 2 didn't happen, but was supposed to include the 695 Fuoriserie.

It could just be tabs/mount locations. The engine code I believe was the same. The manual I noticed it in was for a 500c.

I didn't really go into engines when I wrote that.  Euro 6 has been an evolving standard I believe with 6D 6D+Temp etc, so I don't know exactly what changes happened when on that front.  I think Euro 6 was sometime in 2014, presumably with Series 3 but can't find details.  I know 6D was introduced for MY19, so September/October 2018 refresh when the Active Monza was added as I have a document about that one.  From what I can see in the manuals, the body has a different number between Euro 5 and 6.  Probably small changes but worth bearing in mind.

ECU is different from memory as the aftermarket tuning boxes had to be changed.

Not sure I'd put the S4 as just cosmetic.  There are some electronics changed (Blue&Me > uConnect) or features added like options automatic lights/wipers (you can only have one or the other).

I see what you mean, but from the point of view I'm looking at (i.e. major loom / ecu differences) the s4 changes were mostly cosmetic, if you include the extra CAN bus thingy here and there.

Interesting the body has a different number, that could be very minor (e.g. differences in headlight and tail light mounts) or it could be earth shattering, think I'd be better off sticking to pre-2014 for my potential 'franken-car' just in case.
