330Ci to 595c
« on: April 03, 2014, 09:07:16 am »
Hi everyone.

As it says I've just sold a 14 year old 330Ci and replaced it with an Abarth 595c with pearlescent white paint and yellow callipers.

The old car was a great motorway car but with summer coming I felt that a convertible might be fun.  I've owned a boxy Panda and a Uno in the past and loved them for what they were.  Great fun on back roads!

So, my last Uno required pliers to pull the choke out as the plastic lever was long gone and a bag of split pins  because the gear stick kept coming off in my hand.  None of this stopped me loving the car btw.

Already I'm thinking about upgrading the hifi with a sub.  Can this be done easily?

We'll see if the commute is too depressing as all my friends seem to think..for me,right now I feel that I want to drive rather than coast thumb up bum to and from work.  Since the 330 went I've been driving to work in my other toy, a Z4M and almost decided to make it the commuter for the summer.  But it averages about 20mpg and the servicing is quite fruity.

Anyhow it is a done deal and 29mpg with the 330 is going to be replaced with 28mpg on the Abarth. (How big is the tank? What is the range?). And I can't wait until Saturday when I collect it.

So hello and yes pictures will follow

Oh I forgot to mention that I live as far up the Thames that you can go in a boat.. There's another Pearlescent Abarth in the village.

I wonder if you're here? You're part of the reason I bought mine.  Thought about putting a note on your windscreen many times!

Hello an welcome! I guess you don't have the Interscope sound system on your 595c standard? That's actually a pretty good system with the sabelts (the sub goes under the drivers Sabelt) but not too sure on getting it installed after you have bought the car, a dealer would probably be best to contact about this, otherwise custom installs would be the way forward with that.

As for MPG, I am pretty sure you will be getting more than 29mpg on the 595c, it's more like 35mpg combined, the tank is 30 Litres with a 5 Litre reserve. Not very big, but I'm pretty sure you can get 300+ miles from a single tank if driven sensibly.

The Abarth has a lot of character, something that's missing from a lot of euro compliant obsessed cars these day that are eager to please reviewers. I am pretty sure you will absolutely love it.

Looking forward to the pics and again, welcome along :D

Mpg will depend on commute and how you drive it, I do ~100 miles  a day in heavy M4 commute ~75 and see ~43mpg, when I am running late ~20mpg  ;D

I didn't have Interscope on my 595 so I had a sub fitted under the driver seat (with velcro as I didn't want any drilling) and boy, what a transformation. I would recommend it to anyone. I'm having the sub and wiring removed at the weekend as I've sold the car now and don't plan to give it away! It was £350.00 fitted by a specialist in Cambridge. I could always sell you mine  :thumb: it's only 4 months old......

Yes this is true, I managed 316 miles from a tank on a long trip and there was a little bit left before I filled up. I averaged 48mpg and the first 40mins was stuck in traffic on the way there.

Well picked it up this morning and it's a thing of great beauty.  A bit grey and wet round here today so no picture as yet.  The only slightly odd thing is that the passengers footwell mat (a half leather 595 job) only covers about half of the footwell, the flat part, so normal sized people will be getting their muddy feet all over the end of the footwell.

I've decided that any mods will have to wait until I've got to know the car a bit better.

All in all a great day and a great handover by T H White in Swindon.

Here it is, 500 miles already.  Just had it's first proper polish for a bit of protection.
