500 in waiting
« on: November 18, 2008, 09:08:09 am »
Hey all,

Hope this forum is as successful as some of the others I frequent (god, do I sound like a stalker??)

Placed a deposit for a 500 Abarth back in July - some confusion as they took my payment twice, so now I'm hearing stories that other folks have had contact with their dealers and I've heard nothing since the confirmation email, I'm worried they cancelled my order when they refunded one of the payments.. if not I'm order #39

Like a couple of folks on here I've had a Lupo Gti in the past (well 2 actually), a great fan of the traditional 'pocket rocket'.. though am lucky enough to have owned so more exotic stuff in the past too - just like have a good laugh in the car.. read into that what you will ;)

    I'm on the list but not heard a word yet.

    The waiting is killing me!

    If you haven't heard anything from your dealer since placing a deposit, you should ring and find out why!!! It is just common courtesy to call customers, even if you have nothing new to tell them.

    Hi John,

    Don't even know who my dealer is as I placed the deposit on line :s I take if from that response, with your 'insider' knowledge, that I should have at least been told who my dealer is by now?

    Agree about the common courtesy... unfortunately experience has hardened me... perhaps the Abarth experience will be different....

    Depends how long ago you placed your deposit, as far as I'm aware, the very early adopters should now have been sent to the dealers and the dealer should of contacted you. I know that all my customers have been contacted because I did it myself!
    If you placed your deposit in the last couple of weeks, you may still be floating around the system at Abarth. Lets not be too damning about dealers until we know the facts.

    To clarify, I have been contacted by my dealer in August but only to say that I am on his list and that he will be in touch again when he knows more info.

    I've not been contacted re spec, delivery and placing the formal order.

    Welcome, Trikster!

    Placed a deposit for a 500 Abarth back in July...

    I'd definitely be on the blower to Abarth UK (00800 2227 8400) to find out what's going on.

    Thanks guys - been on the blower.. and they've finally called back. All very apologetic about how I fell through the net etc.

    They are also ensuring that my order is going through Poole, despite what the 'nearest dealer' on the Abarth website says this is by far my closest to drive to, so am awaiting their call back. Have also been assured that the delay will not have impacted my 'position' on the list...

    So, lets see how it goes...... ;D

    Were you another former poster on Club Lupo? (There's a few of us on here already) Seem to remember someone with a Vantage on there.

    Welcome Trikster,
    You're not alone in not hearing from the dealer: Research in Nuneaton only noted me as on the list after I'd been in to speak to them although they were very apologetic for missing me.

    How do you find the Vantage? I ask because as working for Jaguar, I was involved in the engine development and sign off.

    @AndyW

    - yep, used to hang around ClubLupo.. sold both my Gtis to members - had an 01 5sp then a 53 6sp. Actually saw the first one in Woking the otherday - very surreal. Great little cars... hoping the Abarth will continue in the same vein

    @Chumley

    - Love the Vantage, although not the depreciation  :-X Had it for 2 years now, if the market wasn't so pants I would be selling it - not because I don't love it but I am a serial car changer... but hardly a chore owning such a  car. Engine is fantastic - pulled the infamous Fuse22 so get the full bore sound too - OK, I've had technically better (and quicker) Porsches - but the whole emotion of the Vantage is something else. Dealers are crap tho.. not prepared for the 'bigger' volumes that competing with the 911s brought (hence my comment earlier John - don't worry not painting everyone with the same brush)

    Makes the 911's look somewhat dumpy too :D A gratuitous pic when out with some friends the oter day down at Goodwood....

    Yup, thought it was you. I think the Abarth 500 is about the closest Lupo GTI replacement we've seen in recent years. I can't wait to get one.

    Depreciation on the Vantage's is chronic isn't it, nice colour there, like Porches Arena Red.

    Well Westover have been in touch - interesting conversation as I'd also enquired about a used Elise they are selling via the website and the guys called me up to discuss both as the info from Abarth and my email came in within an hour of each other

    Turns out they had a whinge at Abarth for sending the order so late, but have slotted me in chronologically - allegedly they've 200 orders  :o, and I've slotted in as no. 14... seems low given I was #39 with Abarth but not worried as it'll probably make no differnce in practicality...

    Did they give any indication of when they will actually be taking orders?!
