Hello from Edinburgh
« on: December 08, 2014, 04:37:45 pm »
Hi folks,

I've been toying with the idea of getting an Abarth for a while now and finally after a year of searching the right one popped up at a local garage. Turned up to check it out and within 5 minutes I was handed the keys and told to just bring it back before the garage closed for the day. It is safe to say the ear to ear smile did not leave my face throughout the whole test drive. My previous car was a gutless 1.2 corsa and whilst I hated every last centimeter of the thing it did good as my first car.

Picked up the Abarth at the end of September and have not looked back since. She is a standard 135bhp naked white with black leather with red stitching. She also has climate control and interscope - which I believe is a an option on the after 2010 models. So far I've done no upgrades to the car and don't really have any planned either as I like it just the way it is. Open to suggestions of course!

It would be good to know also if the previous owner was on here, the car originated in the Aberdeen area.

Thanks,
H

Welcome H, love those two images really classy. :thumb:

Bought mine new two years ago & back in April had it remapped, slightly lower rear springs on rear & a full cat back stainless steel exhaust fitted & it's fantastic fun, not that it wasn't as standard, but it is now doubly so.

Plenty one can do, so what ever tickles your fancy.

    Steady on the bends,

    Clive.

    Hi Clive,

Cheers for the reply, I did notice the rear is a bit higher than the front, does dropping the rear make much of a difference handling wise?  Another thing I've considered is the exhaust - however, just now I'm happy with the sound, so much so even the smallest of tunnels or bridges get the mute the music, window down treatment haha. The gf isn't all that happy about that procedure though  :(

I'll have some more photos soon when I can get the thing clean!

Out of interest who done your re-map?

    Cheers!

The springs are only for aesthetics & sit the back down so it is nice & level, can't say it's improved the handling at all. All the work was done by a company down south, but I'm guessing there must be company's up there north of the border that can help, good luck.

Welcome mate! My last car was a one point poo Corsa C sxi as well - when I got the Abarth out on a test drive this time last year my mind was made for me. Bought it on Xmas eve :)

You'll notice in the 500 mods section I've just done my first 'big' upgrade - FK coilovers from Germany and now sitting MUCH lower and handles like the car should have done. Cost £150 approx as they have a sale on now!

    Before/after pic below:

Here's a cheeky one outside the garage after the first test drive:

The first mod was the TMC upgrade air filter and BMC blow off/dump valve.

If you like winding down the windows through the tunnel, this is a good one as you hear a pswoosh on gear change as if you're driving something immense.

I'd say the first thing you should do is the exhaust. This is my next venture, will be one of these bad boys...

    Most likely this!!!

    No silencer... will be epic!

    Hi H,

I am in Glasgow myself, in an Abarth Evo Esseesse.

They are cracking cars, put a smile on your face everytime you drive them. As for the GF situation, think most of us are in that unfortunate situation, I am not one of the lucky ones like yourself with a GF who likes cars. I have a dinner booked for my birthday this friday and the mrs isn't happy as she is getting dragged to port glasgow to have my car dyno'd before hand lol  :thumb:

I would suggest a TMC tuning box and BMC air filter, they are fine additions for a bit more sound and certainly more power and grunt. One of them boxes would put you upto 160bhp like the Esseesse easy! Will need to get a scottish meet arranged for the new year, I am a newbie to them as well but looking forward to the first chance I get to attend one!
