595 Competizione on its way :)
« on: July 21, 2015, 12:47:21 pm »
Hi everyone, I'm new round here.

Just put deposit down on the new 595 Competizione. I've been after an Abarth for ages, so I'm giddy with excitement. Didn't get a chance to drive the new 180hp one, but after getting behind the wheel of the old one I was already sold! Don't think I've grinned (ok, howled with glee) as much in a car since we sold our old MX5 a few years back.

Can't wait!!!

    Hi and welcome.

I think its good you didn't get to drive the 180bhp as you are likely to be even more impressed when you take delivery of your new toy.

When are you due to pick it up? :)

Mines was supposed to be early August but no word on whether it is even built yet so thinking about holding of having it registered until Sept 1... get myself a nice new 65 plate car ;) I am in the same boat as you that I haven't test drove one, only have my APE SS as a comparison.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Is the new 180bhp version much different to drive as compared to the previous model? It's kinda hard to find any reviews anywhere.

BTW I've gone for standard red with titanium wheels, and added black leather Sabalts and the Interscope audio pack.

Is it too early to talk about a remap? ;)

I think you will find it hard to find any reviews on them at the moment due to them being so new. John did do a good review on one though.

To be honest, I didn't feel much difference when I test drove the 180 , however...When I got back in my 160 SS, it just felt gutless!! lol

Sounds like a very similar spec to what I have gone for :)

OK, maybe I'll have to do a review when I get mine then! I've found in general that there's a relative lack of info on Abarths out there (ok, before I found this forum!).

Can anyone comment on the Monza on the new model - I've heard it's made out of a different material (quality probs I seem to remember with previous one?) and sounds even more...err...mad?  :P

Seriously I can't get over how great these little things sound. Beforehand I was looking at the usual hot hatches - ok most of them are faster, handle better (and are a heck of a lot more expensive), but nothing seems quite as fun as the Abarth somehow. I think a lot of it is down to something so small making a sound like a huge angry bee gargling bourbon. It's just hilarious  ;D

They are now stainless steel, where previously the were mild steel.

Yep now stainless and I thought it was a bit louder than the mild steel one. The engine was certainly a lot more responsive than the 160. As an added bonus, you can hear the turbo whistle through the exhuast :D

I agree, a lot of other hatchbacks are a bit bland.

If you want to hear some video clips on how they sound, YouTube the Tributo Ferrari 695. As far as I'm aware they have the same engine / exhaust.

Congratulations on ordering the new car!

I've got a Competizione 180 on order too, I did test drive that model (twice) and both times I was grinning like an idiot the whole time ;D The last week or so I have kept my eye out (Sheffield area) and although I've seem millions of Fiat 500's, I've not seen a single Abarth (any variant) yet!

Thanks guys, so hopefully the stainless version ends up a little more durable fingers crossed.

Why is it that so many cars are getting so bland? Honestly I could count the number of genuine 'joy machines' on one hand - and it's not necessarily a price tag thing, I've tried out some far more expensive metal that didn't make the grade in the fun stakes. Is it that not that many people really care about 'driving' as an end in itself? I fear they might be missing out...

Anyways, let's all raise a glass to joyful hooning...

Yeah that's what I mean, a lot of car's that are in the same price bracket as the Abarth aren't half as fun because everything is so light and has no feel to it.

But that's just my opinion. :)

I have looked for reviews of the 180 comp and although it is a new model I can't help but notice that other recent models, the MINI JCW and  208 GTI  anniversary, as examples, have been well covered in the motoring press and for this reason I have not ordered a comp yet and I am having a test drive in a JCW next week,

dougie, you'll love the JCW they're a fine car!

...but for me this is where Abarth is interesting; by many measures like outright speed, acceleration, handling, they fall short vs the competition - but they just have so much sheer cheeky character, and that's what has totally won me over. Do those guys stepping out of GTIs have that Abarth Grin(TM)?  ;D
