Thanks for the info. We really only went to test drive one yesterday because neither of us had driven one.

We felt that if we hadn't done it yesterday we probably would have backed off and kept my Megane Convertible for another year and much as I love the car it just doesn't have the excitement of the Abarth.

When we pick it up on Monday I think the we get a week's insurance which gives us time to shop around but it may be that we decide to just phone our insurance company and get the car changed over if as you say there isn't any hassle with it.

Why is it if you are dreading something happening the days fly by and if you are desperate for the time to go quickly it drags?

The car just loves the hills - Glencoe will suit it well. I envy yous the drive back on Monday. Enjoy!

I am a bit disappointed about Monday. Our delivery time is 4pm so by the time we actually take delivery and hand over the money etc it will be closer to 5pm. Then we have to get to the other side of Edinburgh with the commuter traffic. Then I will need feeding on the way home too so by the time we "hit" Rannoch Moor it will be dark. October/November is the time of year when the deer herd together and we have seen one run across the road in front of us followed by maybe another 30 which is disconcerting to say the least, especially when we are pushing on. So during these months we tend to drive across Rannoch at 40 to 50 in the dark. But then again, we are going to try to run this car in properly. I know it isn't strictly necessary but I don't think I will want to change my car again so what we do right with it now will hopefully make a difference later.

I jokingly asked my other half where we are going on Tuesday and he said we are going to Applecross. Knowing how he drives his Jag I am not totally sure that I actually want to sit as a passenger with him having a play on the single track roads up there!!! Probably won't go because the weather forecast for Tuesday is for heavy rain. Actually the weather forecast for the next two weeks is for heavy rain every day.

So - it's just after 4am. I can't sleep for the excitement. There is an almost full moon and I can see the boats on the loch almost as if it is daylight. Absolutely stunning. We had snow on the hills yesterday morning but it melted throughout the day.

Hi there from the lowlands of Fife. I think you should be almost home now and I bet you haven't stopped smiling since you drove out of Sighthill industrial estate

I've had my A500 since July and I absolutely love it. I was only after a Fiat 500 to downsize from my 4x4 and be more economical but after I realised I could afford an Abarth that was it, like all the rest of the forum I fell hook line and sinker for this fab little car. Our first big road trip was to Skye so we covered the roads around your neck of the woods (we even spotted 2 A500s en route, one in Glencoe and one at Kyle but alas no waves!!) it was amazing. We are going on the Scottish Abarthisti road trip to Oban on Sunday in a convoy from Loch Lomond (There will be arguments in our house over who gets to drive for the first time ever!)

Enjoy and let us know how the drive home was

Hi Skelly. Actually we are home and haven't left home all day. Don't want to say too much at this stage but suffice it to say that we don't have the car through no fault of our own. So to be honest, at the moment, I am so fed up that I don't even want the damn car now.

Maybe not Edinburgh. I don't know yet. I don't want to say too much at the moment until we know exactly what happened.

Suffice it to say that this car was meant to cheer me up because I haven't taken the death of my Mum very well so the fact that I didn't get it was a lot more devastating to me than it might normally have been.

I originally had an order in with Edinburgh myself, but after a few frustrating weeks of poor communication, ended up buying from Glasgow as they seemed to be a bit more 'on the ball'. Admitedly, I didn't get to deal with the proper Abarth specialist in Edinburgh.. so hopefully he can turn things around for you.

so sorry to hear about your mum

....dont give up on getting an Abarth 500...it certainly will cheer you up....and just think, many of us have had a 12 week wait for our little beauties....(and i have had 3 of them !!!!!!!), it is worth the wait... i have had one for over a year now, (on and off), and the joy and excitement of driving it certainly has not worn off.

i had the ss kit fitted after a couple of months of ownership.....(mainly to get rid of the voices in my head), and was very pleased with the resulting increased performance.... i have kept all my spare tyres....(all 8 of them), as i dont think the resale price is good enough, and i wont have to buy any new tyres for years.

I am insured with Aviva...they have been brilliant (2 accidents...incl one write off.....not my fault!)... they charged me an extra 30 quid when i upgraded to ss.... they have been faultless in my recent 'write off' incident....and they didn't up my i insurance as much as i was expecting.....

I am pleased that you are still enjoying your 500. Sorry about the accidents though. I doubt I could have waited 12 weeks. I am probably just so devastated and upset at what is happening that I have talked myself out of the car. I'm gutted that something that should have put the smile back on my face has done the opposite at the moment. (Miserable bitch

Oh Nabby I feel sick for you. I read the thread expecting to hear of your joyous drive home and outing to Applecross today and this is just horrible. At least you didn't come all the way down here. I had a couple of issues with Edinburgh but they don't sound as bad as yours. I went to pick my car up and it was still in the showroom with a sold sticker on where I'd left it 4 days before. Luckily I only live 30 mins away so not really a problem but it ruined my new car experience. I left some honest feedback on a customer survey they emailed me and the manager phoned me straightaway to apologise. They offered me some car mats (which I'd already bought) and then let me choose some free stuff. I picked a tshirt for my little boy and a remote control Abarth (safely away to santa's workshop).

Honestly don't let this put you off. This car is worth any initial dealer failures I'm sure they will try to make good. I never had a car that made me smile so much and that is what you need.
