Saved - with interest rates so low there is no point in saving money that isnt already locked in at better rates.

My son has written off his fair share but tbh my view is that given them an old hunk of junk and they wont take as much care plus she's a girl (please no screaming sexism at me - the statistics / insurance premiums agree with me) so is less likely to. It's not an expensive car to repair for minor dings and scrapes and the final selling point is that if she is going to have a crash I would rather it be in a new NCAP rated car with all the latetest research behind it then a 10 year clunker that hasnt even got ABS.

I am lucky as I have had my fair share of high performance cars and have found I have got into more "scrapes" when driving some under powered, non-handling, bottom of the range banger than when in something a whole lot better.

I agree with you on the ABS front, and the ESP its great to have these for a first car and modern cars are so much safer. When I think back to the amount of people at my school who had the old mini's I can't beleive parents were willing to let their childeren drive those things.

But with regards to the girls are better drivers my sister wrote off one car, and looked after another one so well it was practically falling to pieces and now is on her third.

I on the other hand, after eight years and 115,000 miles still have my first car, and apart from one teensy bit of rust and a desire to drink more petrol than you'd have thought possible for a 1 litre it still runs fine.

I gota say not everyone that gets given a car when their parents have abit of money simply thrashes it and doesnt respect it its all down to the indiviual, but I say good luck to her just wish my parents had a bit more cash  :thumb:

So with the departure of the GTR (out of interest did you make your money back on it?) what are you driving at present until/if the 695 arrives?

Also out of interest what other cars have you had recently as you clearly know what your looking at to be interested in both a GTR and a 695

Made a small profit on the GTR but that was only because I was one of the first to put a deposit down and there were 3 price rises for new customers and the VAT down to 15% helped.

I haven't replaced the GTR with anything yet - just using the wifes AMG when I want to drive like a hooligan, considering a Defender for some fun.

I have a strange insurance policy - a little like Admiral multi-car but basically it covers all the members of my family to drive any vehicle fully comp and anybody to drive one of my cars fully comp. Needless to say it isn't cheap but where we do benefit is with the kids. Also - if they trash a car it doesnt bump up the premium too much. Also, each car has a guarenteed value so if stolen / written off there is no negotiation they just pay the agreed value.

If we were to insure it normally i would guess around £2,500 plus.
