New member, planning to not-quite get an Abarth

Hi,

Just joined up following a recommendation from someone on a Subaru Legacy forum (!) since I'm thinking of starting a slightly mad project (though not as mad as some of the Subaru franken-cars I've cobbled together).

Looks like there's a lot of experience and knowledge in here, so hoping I can tap into some of that with what I intend to do, and maybe add a bit of random waffle / useful bits and bobs along the way...

Basically I want to take a plain old 2016 (pre-facelift?) 5 speed manual Fiat 500C and turn it into initially a 180bhp Competizione (comp?) before doing maybe some more work to improve the handling, and then maybe up the power further if needed.

I've been reading through elearn and an online 2013 service manual I've found and it looks perfectly do-able - at least according to elearn the speedo is not locked the BCU, and there seem to be numerous companies who can 'freshen' an ECU to remove the security coding, so it should just be a matter of replacing the loom (I'm expecting front loom and engine bay), pairing a 'freshened' ECU with the BCU, and swapping the oily bits from a crashed donor hatch. CAN bus doesn't appear to be too much of an issue since nothing in the rear loom seems to have it's own unique CAN bus ID. Of course it won't be as straightforward as that, but it's a nice dream.

And judging by the preliminary insurance quotes I got from Chris Knott, it's not going to be too painful insurance-wise either :)

Thanks, and hopefully I'll be able to add a little in return :)

If anyone's interested in one of my previous (slightly bonkers) projects and have a few hours to kill, here it is:

Think I might have found the ideal donor for my project:

It's a 500c with close to the original Abarth colour scheme which is a good start, and since it's a 2009 it should be a Euro 4 model hopefully.

Only thing which worries me is the emissions data in the DVLA guide - for the 1.2 (no model year) it shows CO maximum 0.1ppm whereas for the 2015-on 1.2 it shows 0.3, same as the rest of the 500 range including the Abarth 180bhp so I hope that's a typo...

D'oh! Maybe not. Turns out I've unexpectedly won an Abarth 595 Turismo with minor damage from Copart, so I'll be getting that instead.

Um, yep, it's a black one with a bit of a broken nose

Not quite the cheap'n'cheerful donor I was planning to get, it's one owner and on 34k! Guess I'll be repairing this one rather than breaking it...

    Anyone know it?
