Hi,
Just joined up following a recommendation from someone on a Subaru Legacy forum (!) since I'm thinking of starting a slightly mad project (though not as mad as some of the Subaru franken-cars I've cobbled together).
Looks like there's a lot of experience and knowledge in here, so hoping I can tap into some of that with what I intend to do, and maybe add a bit of random waffle / useful bits and bobs along the way...
Basically I want to take a plain old 2016 (pre-facelift?) 5 speed manual Fiat 500C and turn it into initially a 180bhp Competizione (comp?) before doing maybe some more work to improve the handling, and then maybe up the power further if needed.
I've been reading through elearn and an online 2013 service manual I've found and it looks perfectly do-able - at least according to elearn the speedo is not locked the BCU, and there seem to be numerous companies who can 'freshen' an ECU to remove the security coding, so it should just be a matter of replacing the loom (I'm expecting front loom and engine bay), pairing a 'freshened' ECU with the BCU, and swapping the oily bits from a crashed donor hatch. CAN bus doesn't appear to be too much of an issue since nothing in the rear loom seems to have it's own unique CAN bus ID. Of course it won't be as straightforward as that, but it's a nice dream.
And judging by the preliminary insurance quotes I got from Chris Knott, it's not going to be too painful insurance-wise either
