Abarth comes home
« on: February 02, 2009, 09:36:10 pm »
Finally took delivery today of my 1949 white GP Abarth. Drove home very carefully in the snow ! Are the brakes so fierce on every car or is it just mine ? With the weather how it is just now you realise that the car isn't white at all - it's cream. My previous Punto Sporting was blue so the colour change will take a bit of getting used to. My wife reckons I'm a " boy racer " with the red stripe down the side. The car will now stay safely locked away in the garage until all this nasty snow has gone.

    good plan!

yes the brakes are a HUGE inprovement over the fiat GP sportings. that have a LOT of stoping power.

glad you got it home in 1 peice. enjoy it!!! (just wait for snow to go first though eh?!?!? ;))
    The one with the cape!

No upgrade for me. I'm all show and no go ! Just wanted a genuine Abarth to cruise around in and now I've got one. My previous Punto was not the Grande version, it was a Mk 3 Punto Sporting in what I think they called Sprint Blue or something like that. Good little car actually. Owned it nearly 5 yrs and all I replaced were 2 front tyres, set of wiper blades and the pollen filter. Original exhaust and original battery still on. Never ever let me down. The brakes were a little more, shall we say " progressive" than the Abarth .When I drove that out of Platt's yesterday and touched the brake at the end of the road it virtually stopped dead ! So it was gently does it on the brakes all  the way home. Anway, as the " worst snow for 18 years " has nearly all melted round here, I'll be taking it out on the road tomorrow for a little try out.
