If you want a good thread of me having a serious toys out the pram moment (before I was a mod I'll add) search around the 3rd page of the 500 section for when we found that litlle detail out the LHD cars do look much smarter with the gauge down there.
That was a fun read! I'm in the UK but haven't bought a RHD car since 1996 for various reasons, four of them have not been available in RHD, the smart was an early UK market leftie and my 500 POP was a static demo car bought early by my local Fiat (and thankfully NOT an Abarth dealer) which I got for a song
So I will be continuing the tradition by ordering my A500 as LHD, the first time I've had to make the concious choice to buy LHD over RHD. Spoke to the dealer yesterday who confirmed the only issue was a possible 3 month wait and possible £500 premium which I'll save by picking the grey over the Funk White I thought I wanted originally. Dealer told me then he had confirmed with Fiat that the boost gauge was to the left of the instruments, I took it to mean between the steering wheel and n/s A pillar but still on top of the dash. So even mopre pleased to see a neater sighting
Its an unfortunate fact that EU built cars are designed primarily for the LHD market and then as an afterthought they work out the RHD conversion - one car I used to run in RHD had some massive bracket contraption running along the underneath of the dash to connect the right side brake pedal to the left side brake servo! Did wonders for brake response and feel! LHD also has the advantage that one up (as my cars usually are) the driver and gearbox sit on one side of the car, the engine on the other, giving potential better balance
