Thanks for that Alex. I take it that the reason for masking the number plates is purely to stop someone with exactly the same colour / type of car, (whether stolen, or not) sticking your number on it and then driving around like a loon and commiting crimes in it?

Anyway, I've done 1,000 miles now and am pretty happy with the car. It works well on the cross country routes that I take to work and was fine on a 200+ mile round trip to London today on mainly motorways. I've got a trip up North to take next week which will be about a 500 mile round trip, so it will be interesting to see how I get on with sitting in the drivers seat for this length of time. I haven't found an ideal seating position yet and so after 1,000 miles am beginning to wonder whether I will. 

Sport boost mode is definitely the way to go though. It does seem very lethargic in normal mode, but when you press the sport boost button the extra torque makes a lot of difference low down and the car starts to sound quite nice above 4,000rpm.

I've averaged 31mpg so far, but haven't been hanging around. I think it tends to be about 35mpg on a run on main roads and 25mpg on a cross country route into work. Doesn't seem to make any difference on mpg whether I use normal, or sport boost mode. I think the extra torque in sport boost mode allows you to drive at lower revs / higher gears when just keeping up with the traffic flow, therefore it works out just as economical.

Suspension and brakes are fine for a semi-sensible daily driver and I'm getting used to the steering which is worst when you are taking it easy / better when driving hard.

Any other negatives? Small things like the hazards flashing when braking, glovebox and sun visors - Nothing serious.

Overall, I'm very happy with it.

have you got a GPA that flashes the hazards when you brake then OPC, or you wouldve wanted that feature?

from what ive seen on other fiat models it looks like if youve got the series 2 with the round key this function is also included as well as the lane change function, just curious to know what youve got?

My series two does the flashy indicators when breaking hard chunkymonkey. I believe OPC's is also a series 2, since he got his with a skydome and it arrived very shortly after mine.

Yes, mine is a series 2 and the flashing indicators are beginning to drive me crazy. 

It is most frustrating when going down country lanes at night. You brake hard, hazards come on, you light the whole lane up with them and anyone in front, behind, or coming the other way thinks WTF and could panic and do something silly??

Yeh, indeed. Its sounds sensible but its really not. Just adds confusion to other drivers.

I went past the 5,000 mile mark yesterday and I am still pretty pleased with it. It is working well as a company car, going up and down the country and is also doing a pretty good job as a family car, (2 young boys).

The most that I have done in a day is probably 500-600 miles and it copes fine with this, (apart from needing to fill up twice). When I do a long journey, I always try to get off the motorways to relieve the boredom and it never disappoints.

The only things that I am not pleased with are as follows:-

a) Sun visors are rubbish. They only seem to adjust to about 3 positions and don't have a vanity light.
b) Front interior lights are not very bright and there is no spot light.
c) No rear seat interior lights. This is a real pain when getting the boys into their car seats in the dark.
d) No hooks in the boot to tie bungee ropes to.
e) Cup holders are a complete joke.
f) Not enough, or too small interior storage areas.
g) No lock on the glove box.
h) No 50/50 split folding rear seats.
i) Small range on one tank of fuel.

None of these things spoil the driving experience, but if they were improved / provided, it would be an even better car for work and for the family.

For what it is, (a cheap hot hatch) I can't complain about the driving experience and it gives me more smiles than lots of more expensive cars that I have had, or driven in the past. Definitely proof that the future (for me at least) is in smaller, lighter cars.
