Title: Android Auto - am I missing something?

Hi all,

I've been excited to get Android Auto up and running on my 7" Uconnect w/ Nav, but I've become a little unstuck on how to enable it.

I've installed Android Auto on my Pixel 2 (running Android 9), plugged it into the USB port in the centre console, but am not given any kind of prompt on the Uconnect system. For a short while, I wasn't certain that Android Auto was a standard feature and was enabled on my car, but MyAbarth lists it as an installed option for my vehicle.

I'm the second owner of my '19 595 Competizione, so I've attempted to restore the Uconnect apps, removed personal data, etc. to no avail. I've been hunting for a way to get into the engineering mode of the Uconnect system to perform a full reset, but have come up blank so far.

My next step is to try a different USB-A to USB-C cable, though my existing Anker one does successfully charge my device.

Any help would be greatly appreciated before I exhaust all my current avenues and take it to a dealer.

Hey, have you installed the android auto app on your phone?

If not, have that booted up when you connect your phone.

If you are already doing that. Change the phones USB mode.

Allow your phone to transfer data via USB

When you have connected your phone to your car with a USB cable, check that data transferring is enabled.

Please note: steps may change depending on your device.

From the home screen swipe down from the top to choose notifications.

There should be a transferring media files via USB notification, if so you should be connected.

If it does not say anything about media transfer or MTP then choose the charging via USB notification.

Select Transfer media files.

You also need to select android auto on the UConnect System. It should be under "apps"

Search in google for "I'm having difficulty connecting to or using Android Auto" and you'll get some relevant guides.

Oh, and some cars dont come with it as standard, as it was a £150 add on if I recall.

You might have been sold it without it actually in the car. But first try the above steps!

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I've Android Auto installed and ready to go as per the instructions. I even got my wife to install it today so that I could test with her phone too (another Pixel 2), but had similar results. It also didn't launch Android Auto on the Uconnect system, which lead me to believe that it was either:

a) An issue with Uconnect
b) I don't have Android Auto support

I dropped by the local dealer today and the chap on the Service desk checked my specs (I've got Android Auto according to their system) and wandered out into the car park with his Samsung Galaxy and USB A->USB C cable in hand. Upon turning on the ignition and plugging in his device Android Auto fired up as expected.

It looks like it's an issue with the Pixel 2 - both mine and my wife's phone are running the exact same version of Android. Forums seem to point to patchy support with Pixel handsets, which is ironic considering they're Google devices.

I've had a change to spend more time with it this afternoon. When my phone is connected, all of the USB preferences are greyed out on the device. I've played around with the developer settings, the default USB configuration, attempting to enable and disable USB tethering to no avail.

For all intents and purposes, it'll only charge from the car in it's current state. Hopefully Android Q will resolve the issues.
